ORACLE HEALTH EHR OVERVIEW

Oracle is one of the biggest technology companies in the world. It only makes sense that they would have acquired Cerner in 2022 for a whopping $28 billion. Rebranded as Oracle Health, the EHR company is now integrated with Oracle’s cloud infrastructure and AI capabilities. This provides a huge advantage in the EHR marketplace where scale and innovation are vital to success.

Moving to Nashville, Tennessee where other key players in the healthcare space are headquartered, Oracle Health employs 159,000 people as of 2024 with a big investment in cloud infrastructure and R&D roles.

WHO USES ORACLE HEALTH?

While most think of Oracle Health and its predecessor Cerner to be associated with very large hospital and government implementations, Oracle Health is also popular with small to mid-sized medical practices. Oracle Health EHR is known to help any sized medical practice streamline their workflows and reduce the redundancies that have plagued medical staff incessantly.

There are additional partnerships to consider, such as Praxis EMR runs on Oracle database and is well suited for small to mid-sized medical practices.

ORACLE HEALTH EHR FEATURES

Oracle Health EHR Features

In a world where hundreds of EHR companies exist to compete for the business of hospital systems and medical practices across the world, Oracle Health has every feature one can think and more, including:

  • Seamless workflows to create efficiencies (no more wasted time)

  • Actionable, data driven insights and intelligence

  • Interoperability which one would expect from a behemoth like Oracle.

  • A patient portal that is actually user-friendly

  • Most excitingly, Oracle Health provides AI-powered solutions.

An AI Powered EHR, Oracle Health

In 2025, Oracle Health plans to launch a “next generation EHR system” that incorporates AI features including voice-driven navigation, AI generated clinical summaries and AI conversational search. But these aren’t going to be considered separate functions, but AI automation embedded directly into your everyday workflows.

As we’ve covered, Oracle Health provides a popular EHR to medical practices of all sizes. But what other solutions do they offer?

  • Population Health

  • Revenue Cycle Management

  • Reporting & Analytics

  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)

  • Security Solutions

  • NetSuite Business Management Suite

  • Healthcare Human Capital Management (HCM)

They also offer regulatory compliance and regulatory consulting services and just about anything you can think of to help run a medical practice.

What Makes Oracle Health EHR Different (and Better) than the Competition?

Who is Oracle Health’s biggest competitor? Likely Epic. And while Epic has been focused on EHR (as opposed to all healthcare like Oracle) and usability, Oracle’s focus has been on AI and its cloud infrastructure.

On an earnings call in 2024, Larry Ellison, co-founder, chair and CFO of Oracle said that “our user interface is so different than Epic”. He goes on to discuss his confusion when competitors talk about how they are going to charge separately for AI. For Oracle Healthcare, it’s all going to be included. The way he sees it, AI applications are “everything” for them.
