EPIC EHR SOLUTIONS FOR SMALL PRACTICES
Is Epic EHR Systems used for small to medium sized practices? You bet!
Most people are likely familiar with Epic as one of the largest healthcare systems in the world. What many people don’t realize is that Epic has evolved to be a solutions provider for small and mid-sized practices. Epic provides a scaled down version of its enterprise EHR called Sonnet EHR which is ideal for this market. It offers small and medical sized practices an EHR with power but without an expensive price tag.
They continue to overcome the perception of being a pricey EHR used only by large hospital systems.

EPIC INNOVATES WITH AI
Just like all EHR companies, Epic has accelerated its AI use in its EHR. They announced at HIMSS25 that they have 125 AI projects in motion. They have a heavy focus on what is called Agentic AI which is basically AI Agents, bots that act as agents to answer questions, schedule appointments, chat with patients about care goals and can help identify potential treatment options based on analyzing cases.
Their plans are a win-win, as they hope to make things better for patients, but also make things easier on the clinicians and staff. At the HIMSS25 conference, their VP repeated a story where they said a clinician claimed this new AI is going to save his marriage since it has cut out so much time and stress. While the story is anecdotal evidence, the fact that AI can lessen the workload for clinicians and staff is real.
IS EPIC BETTER THAN OTHER EHRS?
If you look at their growing market share, you’d know that Epic is one of the most recognizable EHR solutions in the healthcare industry. They continue to expand globally. Epic Systems has a superb reputation of providing its customers with effective and scalable solutions.
Unlike one of its key competitors Oracle Health (formerly Cerner), Epic has a laser focus on its EHR and usability, whereas Oracle Health has a broader technology business.
Interoperability is one of Epic’s key differentiators. Being able to share, exchange and access data is critical for providers and their patients. Interoperability is highly promoted by Epic.
Altogether, Epic should be a top choice of EHR options, even if you operate a small to medium sized medical practice, including medical specialties such as cardiology, ambulatory care, pediatrics, etc. By and large, most Epic reviews are exceptionally
positive.
Finally, like most EHR companies, Epic provides medical billing services that can help relieve the administrative burden of your staff.
EPIC LEADER JUDY FAULKNER’S STRATEGIC VISION PERMEATES THE ORGANIZATION

HOW MUCH DOES EPIC COST?
Understanding all the costs of purchasing any EHR can be complicated. It can be like comparing apples to oranges. Remember that all the onboarding fees and contract lengths will likely vary by EHR company.
How much does Epic cost? It is rumored that Epic may charge sizable fees for the implementation, so be sure to ask for clarification of any upfront or ongoing fees.
